Move over Swifties…

Make room for the Ruhligans! Beth worked hard to get the Honking Geezers to play at the PGC Founder’s Day Party September 9th. Which means, our very own Eddie Ruhl will be performing with his band! You may have heard him, practicing on the harmonica while waiting in the tow plane. So mark your calendars. This is not to be missed!

What’s left to do?
You heard about the CCF, LRPC and the Disbursement committee. So what’s the latest? All three are getting close to provide some formal recommendations to the membership on:
– How the club will be investing the money
– What the rules are around using the money
– What capital improvement projects have been identified
We will  schedule two meetings in August (in person and over Zoom) to give you more detailed insights from the committees work and an opportunity for you to provide feedback. The goal is to then have a formal vote during the fall membership meeting.

Classroom #6 siding
In case you missed the special board meeting to discuss next steps with Classroom #6, The bid we received for the siding was approved and we will make funds available from our Vanguard Capital Fund to pay for it. You may see later this year a request to the membership to retroactively finance this project out of the Capital Conservancy Fund (CCF – yes, the “Easement Money”).

Zoom vs In person – Some things have changed
The regular board meeting in May was held in person to have an opportunity to discuss in depth next steps on investing the CCF. It was a good discussion but also had the worst attendance of any board meeting in the last few years. When I started with the club there often were just the board members plus a couple members in the club house. This has changed significantly, when we were forced to move to Zoom with now typically 20-30 (board)members being on the call. I do think Zoom has helped to create more transparency into the machinations of PGC.
But we are looking to upgrade our Classroom #6 and make mixed attendance (in person and virtual) possible. Let us know, if you have experience in latest generation Conference room technology.

We need your help
We need a new Chair person for the Grounds committee, that is interested/willing to oversee mowing and all related equipment (tractors, mower decks, diesel tank etc)
We need an additional member for our Audit committee. If you attended the Spring membership meeting, you will most certainly remember the very good presentation from our treasurer, how we assure, that our financial house stays in order. Regular audits are a part of that.
Reach out to Wolfgang Thamm, if you are interested in helping out with either of the above.

Ombudsperson
What, if you run into an issue at PGC and don’t quite know whom to turn to? Maybe you have a disagreement with another member, instructor or board member? Dave Glosser has agreed to act as Ombudsperson for PGC. He can be your confidential contact to navigate the issue and help resolve it.

So how long can I stay up with a club plane?
Yes, we’ve got some rules. Generally not more than (1) hour in a two seater,. That can be extended to (2) hours, if two members fly together and their names are right after each other on the list. For single seaters, it’s (2) hours. You want to attempt a Badge and would need the plane for 5+ hours? Reach out to the field manager a couple days before your flight and let her/him know. Need a check-out? Schedule it in the morning before the Thermals kick in. Most of all, be conscientious, that fellow members may be waiting on the ground. You really can’t get enough? You may be on the cusp of wanting your own ship!

Tick-Tock
It is tick season, and we really can’t overemphasize to be careful. The mowing team is trying to keep the grass fairly short in all areas, where we may land or retrieve gliders. But dangers also exist below trees etc. Make sure to check for ticks when you get home.
And here is an article, that really highlights the dangers beyond “just” Lyme disease:

PX / KG update
Jef Potters is hard at work with ReFinish in Poland and our shipping company to see both gliders packed in the container and onto a ship by early July.

Encampment!!!
If not yet in your calendar, it’s from 7/17-7/21 but really already gears up the Saturday before and comes to an (exhausted) end the Sunday after.  ANd Yes, it comes with the Steve Devine weather guarantee

Trailer spots / Hangar for sale

Klaus Esser and Justin Shaw each have a trailer spot in the South hangar for sale. Asking price $6,000.
Phil LaRue has a T-hangar for sale. Asking price $3,000. He already has an interested party, that has purchased his K6. That ship has been housed in this hangar for the past 10 years and really needs that hangar as it’s not easily disassembled.
A trailer spot is available in the South Hangar for rent ($500/year).

If you are interested in any of the above, please reach out to our secretary Michelle Wootton. All sales have to be approved by the board.
