They say, it takes a village…

But yet, without the wise women and men, what would that village look like? And so it is. You’ll have seen the email, that the IRS approved our conversion to a 501c3. We did not expect this for another six month. We know whom to Thank. Who had the vision, wisdom, tenacity and intellect to work with our lawyer to get us here. Thank You Dave Johnson. For your stamina in good times and bad. For never taking your eyes off the ball. For guiding this ship through the storm, with a confidence of where we are going.
Now I’d really be curious to know, how you got the Feds to turn this around in record time. But perhaps it’s better, that I don’t. You rock Dave. Thank You!

Cookout! Saturday 5/6/23 Noonish

Already planned as members/new members day, we will be cooking out this coming Saturday. Our in-house master chef will be manning the grill. And celebrate we will.

Next in person board meeting May 11th 7:30pm in Classroom #6

Yes, this board meeting will be held at PGC on May 11th at 7:30 pm. We need to discuss next steps for the Conservancy Capital Fund among other regular PGC business.

Classroom #6?

If it talks like a flight school, walks like a flight school and looks like a flight school, it’s gotta be a flight school, with classrooms in the air and on the ground. Alas – Classroom #6 is our former club house.
And if you’ve not seen it lately, huge thanks to Nick and Mik for kicking off an external refurbish, starting with the roof. This goes along with George’s effort over the past year to lay new flooring in the kitchen area. And all our effort to keep the space clean. Right?!?

No Fly list

All – it is May 1st. And for one reason or another, over 50% percent are on the No Fly list. You will find the reason for You being on that list, when logged into our website. Check for anything listed in RED. We will be enforcing this list!

Website

It’s getting worse before it can get better. Yes, the website is slow right now. Entering flights on the iPad can be a bear. Our CTO is well aware and working to remedy. Over the past years, Dave Johnson (yes, the same guy as mentioned at the top) has been moving custom code into WordPress. This was done to increase security of our website and enable a change in provider. Please be patient, and if you have an interest/knack in website design/coding, please reach out to Dave. He’ll welcome you to the team with open arms.

The fleet

We’ve had a bit of a setback with QD being down, but the part is to arrive from Germany this week. The rest of our aircraft – and many of those from members – are flying. Including H3, newly renamed the soaring piano. Don’t ask…

When we fly

While our regular scheduled flying days are Saturday/Sunday and Wednesday, many will want to fly when the weather is good. And boy was it. Last Wednesday we capped 8 continuous days of flying. And boy was it some good flying. Julia and Alex did their Silver Distance, Mik and Alain flew the Governor’s cup (around Allentown air space) and Jack did quite a bit of coaching from the back of F2. In case, it’s not on your radar – Spring has among the best soaring conditions in the North-East. When it ain’t rainin cats’n dogs.

Youth XC Scholarships!

A member has put up $2,000 to help cover the expenses for our Youth attending XC camps and Contests. Let’s double that money! Contact Bob O’Brien (obrien2357@gmail.com), treasurer of the  Jordyn Agostini Soaring Education Association (JASEA) to contribute. If you are a Youth, wanting to attend an XC Camp or Contest, please reach out to Bob for a funding request.

PGCs flying OC

No, we are not thinking of Liv, Steve, Paul, JL or even Lew Hull. All of them spring chickens in comparison to how long the barn swallows have been coming back to our Hilltop every year. And yes, they have attitude and at times act as if they own the place. Lukas has put in quite a bit of work to provide them alternative nesting opportunities and motivate them away from some of our equipment. We can’t make too many changes in one year.
*OC=Original Cast – yeah, you actually remember Richard and Kelly from that first season of Survivor
